About our Founder
Michael’s journey of youth development and music education began in his teenage years when he began to teach Music at the age of 13. He studied music at some of the best music education institutions in New York City, including the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. Michael’s love for music led to him performing at a variety of venues around the United States, including Carnegie Hall in New York City. Michael was a member of the New York City All-City band in his teenage years and was also a guest performer with the United Air Force Band of the Rockies. Some of Michael’s work includes church concert band preparation and performance as well as Choir leadership.
Michael has a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Music from Pace University and a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Touro College. His first corporate experience and management consultant training began with JP Morgan Chase in June 2000 as part of the firm's leadership development program. He is also an author of the handbook “Business Strategy Series” published by Emerald Insights in addition to being a Founding Partner of the Maxwell Leadership organization providing leadership and personal development training, coaching, and consulting services to his clients. Some of Michael’s teaching experiences include leadership, communication, and project management classes at New York University (NYU), John Jay College of Criminal, and Pace University.
Due to his passion for people development, especially youth development, Michael founded Light the World Foundation in 2009 – a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to educating children in Haiti, providing mentorship, coaching, and scholarship opportunities to youth in communities of New York City and Long Island, New York. Opening a music school has been a dream for Michael at a very early age. His aim is to create a safe and supporting space where music students, from beginners to advanced skill levels, can learn and express their creative genius - giving them the same opportunities he had growing up while also learning critical and transferable life skills.
